About Mike

With over 20 years of experience in residential and commercial real estate in Key West and the Florida Keys, Michael Petro is a seasoned expert in the field. Originally from Connecticut, Michael relocated to Fort Lauderdale in 1990, where he served as a Regional Sales Director for a Fortune 500 company until 1997. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own business, which he successfully ran until selling it in 2000, prompting his move to Key West.

In Key West, Michael began his career in real estate by joining the Key West Citizen as a Sales Manager, where he played a pivotal role in developing the local real estate advertising market. It was during this time that he earned his Real Estate license, transitioning into a full-time real estate professional.

Michael has held several leadership positions within the real estate community, including serving as the President of the Key West Association of Realtors® (KWAR). As a board member and acting Government Affairs Director for KWAR, Michael worked closely with the Miami Association of Realtors® to advocate for key real estate issues such as homeownership, affordable housing, and controlling runaway insurance premiums.

His expertise extends to working with international clients, earning him the Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) designation. Additionally, Michael is well-versed in handling distressed properties and has obtained the Short Sale and Foreclosure Resource (SFR) designation.

Deeply involved in the local community, Michael is a past president of the Rotary Club of Key West, where he was instrumental in establishing the Edward B. Knight scholarship fund. He has also served on the Naval Air Station Key West Restoration Board. Michael is married with four children and continues to be a dedicated member of the Key West community.
